The idea was inspired by the many years I had attended weekly evening writing workshops, where the leader would provide a verbal prompt – a passage from a book or poem – to spark to ignite the mind of the other writers for twenty minutes and then everyone would share what they’ve written.Β It works with painting.Β Old pros and newbies are welcome. I give visual prompts for riffing.
My Water-based Approach – Light over Dark
Most people in the class use water-based media due to the drying time.Β I approach water-based media as I do oil. We layer translucent and opaque colors as if they were oil and working on many at once.Β We swivel from dark over light to light over dark and think in three dimensions, rendering objects in the background first and the foreground last. We build from visuals or collages I provide.Β Β

Each session, we will add the next layer and start three new ones.
