When my daughter was young, I saw the way she looked at me and watched my every move– as I was getting dressed, cooking, or talking on the phone. She made me remember my mother from when I was very young doing the same thing. I reached and painted a whole show about it called “Mom’s Friends” and depicted visual memories I had of those moments. On this day when babies as young as three months old are being taken away from their mothers, I am beside myself with the knowledge that they will not have these images of their parents. We need, as a country, do employ every measure possible to reunite these children. Silicon Valley needs to put its best engineers to create a database. Scientists need to use DNA. We can’t let this bullshit madness continue where one agency doesn’t know what the left hand is doing. It’s unacceptable. Children should not be used as pawns for legislation. It has to stop now. #wherearethegirls #wherearethebabies #dumptrump #inhumane

”Conceptual and abstract, this mediation of the art historical discourse speaks to the necessity for the valuable to be unprecious, for pretense and privilege to be openly critiqued, for the eye of the artist to outweigh the conventional taste — to be both beautiful and brazen inside a modern algorithm of beauty, eccentricity, individuality, and engagement.”⠀ ⠀ Excerpt from review by ⠀ @ShanaNys in⠀ @artandcakeladetail from “Case for Monarchy” Oil on linen from the @zevitasmarcus⠀ #artwords #painting #love

“While Brooks may have corralled her muse’s willpower to produce these works, the paintings themselves in the manner in which they nourish the eye and nurture the soul feel anything but audacious, this is to say “brazen” at all.”⠀ ⠀ Excerpt by andybrumer for A review in Artscene. ⠀ ⠀ Detail from “Blue Angel Oil on Linen⠀ #artwords #painting #love⠀

“Who is not familiar with this sense of pattern, this distribution of Rococo decorative elements? And yet, now that their owners have gone, and they serve no purpose, their sharp details fall away. They liquefy, as if drifting toward a more native design and purpose, a secret ecology of aristocratic rooms. They have their own lives, which generate tiny fragments of noise, texturing the silence until it brims with an eerie vitality.”⠀ ⠀ Excerpt from @danielmaidmen⠀ Review in @whitehotmagDetail from “Wall of Delight” Oil on Linen #artwords #painting #love
